Considering God's Creation

I wanted to dig in to some science with my boys, but I was unsure which direction to go- I remembered that I had Considering God's Creation by Eagle's Wings sitting on a shelf somewhere. Years ago (1993 or so) I purchased it to use with my now adult children. Happily, it did not take too long to find it! :) I was agonizing a bit over whether this the answer for us, but I finally decided to jump in-- "do something even it's wrong!!" is something my husband often says (great words for someone as indecisive as I am ;)) - three weeks later, I'd say it was the right decision. :)

Mark with his "planet mobile" page.
This seems to be a great fit for my boys. The material is interesting to them, there is just enough hands-on to keep it fun (most lessons have a simple activity- very few supplies are required), and the notebook pages are fun without being too intense (too much writing kills the enjoyment for my boys). :)
My boys have particularly enjoyed learning about the Solar System, but this curriculum is old enough that Pluto was presented as a planet. In anticipation to our trip to the planetarium, I explained that Pluto had been "demoted" to a dwarf planet- well, James (6yo) was particularly incensed. Pluto is his favorite planet and he took it very personally- insult was added to injury when the planetarium host explained that not only was Pluto made a dwarf planet, it may actually not be a planet at all but what is going to be called a "Plutoid". James' words on all of this-- "now that is just taking it too far!!" :)
Some of the other pages the boys have completed:

Title page-

Days of creation page- Introduction to "our place in the universe" page- Little booklet that is a part of the above page-
Solar System Detective page-

  1. We are in the process of doing CGC too. I have been using it as a review when we finish an Apologia Elem. book. It was fun to see you post about it!

  2. I actually can't believe that I saved the book for all these years!! The last time we used it Pluto's orbit was nearer to the sun than Neptune's! :) We are playing "Planet Jeopardy" on Tuesday to complete our unit.
