Speaking of New Year's Resolutions...

Does anyone else just cringe at that?... after years of failed resolutions, I used to balk at even the thought of such things. Now, I try to take a more moderate approach. Turning the calendar to the new year is a like having a blank slate. It is a time step back and evaluate how things are going. What activities are working for us? What activities are we interested in pursuing? Are there things that we would like to do/accomplish as a family this year? It is a great time to get these conversations going. But, if you are in the mood for making resolutions... I am reading One Bite at a Time by Tsh Oxenreider, a digital book that is the suggested (not mandatory) January reading for "Booking It 2012" at Life as Mom . The idea of this book is not to make an all at once resolution, but to make reasonable changes "one bite at a time" (get the title now ;)). So far, I love it. Reading Plan 2012

I like having a plan- I don't always stick to it, but I like having it. I think of it like a road map. We might take some detours, but it helps us know where to go when we decide it is time to get back on track. My 2012 Reading Plan:  I was super excited to find out about this  " Booking It in 2012 " reading challenge (through Jen's blog ) at Life as Mom . I have always wanted to join a book club- attending one is a whole 'nother matter! I am in. :) A Year's Illustrated Book Study for the Family. I am going to work off of this list for picture book reads. This is the most amazing list- really ! We read most of the books on it over a few year period of time, but the boys were much younger then. It will be interesting to see which titles they remember.  Many of the selections are interesting for older children (6+) as well- don't let it being a picture book list fool you. I don't know that I am going to join an official picture book challenge...
