Week in Review: February 1-5 2016

Lots of baby care around here as the boys' big sister (our second daughter, Jessica) was having her fifth baby. It was a week full of sword fighting, cuddles, disney movies, books, and coloring.

It's also been a week full of colds. The 2 year old twins had a cold, which I assume James caught from them (although every one in the world seems to have it, so not necessarily). The problem is that no matter how many times I caution the boys, who can resist cuddling with a sweet little toddler who does not feel well? I guess germs are meant to be shared.

In the way of school, we have been in "keep up" mode.

Paul's strongest focus is on his Dave Ramsey finance class (which I highly recommend), his Spanish class, and his economics course.

Mark's strongest focus is on his Spanish class. He takes it at his "Friday school" and loves his teacher. We are also working on Algebra- I hate to switch mid stream, but he is beginning the "Key To" series of workbooks. One of my older daughters, who also struggled with math at the time, used those books for a while and they seemed to help.

James' focus is on math, confirmation prep, Spanish class (co op), and art. As he slept the entire day yesterday, I think he'll have some catch up to do.

We are working on history, logic, and literature together. I am going to come back to blog these last subjects later.

I hope to get back on the blogging band wagon. I find it does help me to be able to look back on the week and see what we have been working on (I think I've said that before!;)). I especially realize how much I appreciate it when I look at old posts. Sometimes the smallest things that were documented bring back such great memories!

Anyway, I have been listening to Pam Barnhill's "Your Morning Basket" podcasts. I realized through listening that we had done our own version of morning time (without having a name to it), but that we had let it go.

I also realized that it had been a very effective learning time for us and a time that we all enjoyed. I have been using those last three subjects as well as a few extras in our "Morning Time"- although, I'd call ours more of a group learning time because it can happen at any time depending on the day.

Stay tuned.... :)

Also this week:

Frank and I celebrated our 35th wedding anniversary (with a quick dinner out and an alert that the baby may be on the way! ;))

We babysat for two more grandbabies, Christopher and Athena, and I was so privileged that they both wanted grandma to snuggle with when it came time to go to sleep. So sweet!

AND!! Finally, baby Kathryn made her arrival.

  1. Oh how precious!!! Congratulations on your newest grand baby. That is just awesome and brings smiles to my face. I was out last night for our moms night out. A mom brought her three week old and I got to hold and cuddle him. Have to admit, one of the first things I did was to smell him up ;) There's nothing sweeter than the smell of a newborn :)
