Homeschool Mother's Journal::Week of Feb, 26 - March 2
In my life this week…
It has been a busy week- dentist appt., volleyball, birthday parties, science class, life teen, junior high group, confirmation class, and it's not over yet! :) We also had a slow start to the week as the boys got home from their snow trip with their sister over the weekend. And, my boys have flag football tournaments that last ALL day on Sunday!! Fun stuff, but oh my!
In our homeschool this week…
We are pushing our way through the Revolutionary war. We hit so many rabbit trails along the way, our studies have been a little unfocused (for better or worse). The good news is that we are making progress.
Interactive maps are a favorite. The pieces can't always be placed in the exact location. The horse is the interactive piece that moves along the path.
Helpful homeschool hint…
Just keep going... don't give up!! And pray. Praying always helps.

Places were going and people
we’re seeing…
My favorite thing this week
was…
James loves using my iPad for drawing lessons. He also looks up animated tv series and pauses them to draw some amazing creations (these are from art lesson videos- art for kids blog, I believe.)

Things I am working on…
Purging. I have a goal of 40 bags for this 40 days of lent. I saw a lot of people doing that last year and it seems like a reasonable goal. I have 5 bags so far plus a big clothes hanging thing that I know I will miss but don't really use right now.
Doesn't everyone take pictures of their clothing donations?
Purging allowed me to get my room under control and find a peaceful place to hang out. I posted that project already, but I wanted to show off the dresser my husband made for me. He was 18 when he made it (more than 30 years ago!). It has stood the test of time.
I’m cooking…
Not cooking, but from the kitchen. A while back I made some "day spa water" (I don't do links on my new computer yet- look up day spa water on pinterest to give credit where due. ;)) I have only done it once or twice since then, but felt the need for a water boost today. That gorgeous apple there is one left from my husband's bountiful crop on his granny smith tree. I dropped that, a cinnamon stick, ice (about 1/2 full), and fill it with water. I let it sit in the fridge overnight. Once I drank about 1/2 the pitcher, I refilled it again.
I’m grateful for…
My son-on-laws!!! Most recently, my son-in-law (married to daughter #3) took my oldest son on another snow boarding expedition where they hit some more advanced slopes. I have seen slopes like those in movies and thought "what idiot would go down those?!". Now I know. ;) But, really, I am so thankful that my son, who needs that daredevil rush, has an outlet.
But all three of my son-in-laws have given unselfishly to my boys over the years- helping with Lego kits, playing games, coaching baseball, taking them on outings... I could not list all of the things. They are a blessing to us "older parents" who don't have quite the energy that we had years ago. I am truly, truly grateful!!!!

I am praying for…
My daughter, who is expecting her first baby via adoption some time this year. Our whole family is on pins and needles waiting for word...

I rewarded my kids this week
by…
By buying them slurpies from 7-11.
The whole story goes like this- we were going to take a hike. A nice 3 mile hike... in which we got slightly confused and it turned out to be more like 5+ miles. And then my boys asked for slurpies. I said no- the reward of the hard work of our hike is enough (they did not quite get that).
THEN I saw a sign that said the parking lot where our van was parked was yet another 1.5 MILES (!!!) - this after we had just trudged up a what seemed like a straight up hill stretch that lasted for ever.
I told them there was a slurpy for anyone who made it to the car without complaining! :) It worked.

This bottom picture was taken about 1/2 through when we still thought this was all fun and games! ;) My calves tell me otherwise today.
Something I am ogling or
have my eye one…
I have not figured out links and such yet (my new computer learning curve), but I'll try...
I have been wanting this math notebooking resource.

Yay!! I did it. That is the link to where to purchase it. The best I can do... no picture. I'm learning. Be patient with me. :) I ogled it, but I actually purchased it as well today. Can't wait to make use of it next week.

We love the interactive maps, too. What a blessing it is to have such a rich family life, with the sons-in-laws just being a part of the whole family! That is my wish for our family, too. That is a wonderful dresser. What a talented husband! I am glad they got their slurpies after all What a hike. It does look beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI love artforkidshub and their drawing lessons -- my son spends HOURS watching the videos and drawing on the whiteboard. It's a great resource.
ReplyDeleteYou did so many great things this week.
And, I agree ---- praying is a MUST in homeschool! (and everything, right?)
Thanks for linking with Collage Friday!
Wow you have been busy:) Loved your son's drawing. I will have the try the slurpie reward as a way to get my kids to stop complaining. Weather looks good in your area, not so good here still but we are hopeful spring is around the corner.
