I am not a Blogger!

Lots of things have taken me away from the blogosphere lately.

Mostly good things! :)

Most recently, the wedding of our youngest daughter!

Then there is all this cuteness! Since this time last year, our family has grown
by four (five counting the above son-in-law!).

There is an additional reason:

Blogging has sort of gone professional! I began blogging in response to the inspiration I received from being able to peek in to the world of other homeschoolers. So many generously shared how their school days looked, how they organized, how they got dinners made... It seemed like a nice little community to belong to.

Don't get me wrong. Some of absolute favorite blogs are the ones that have gone professional. These are women (men too) have found a place to share their time and talents. And don't kid yourself, it takes time to go that direction. I have heard complaints about affiliate links and such, but the women who take the time to share their time and talent with us more than earn any return they receive!

However, where does that leave me? There is not a chance that I will have a polished, well-edited, well-written blog. I think of myself as a sniper blogger. I sit down at the computer, pull up some pictures, quickly write what I came to share, and then sign off. I come back the next day (or sometimes the next year!) and find horrible grammar, weird typos, and strange formatting.

In thinking it through, I think I found my place:

Bloggers are speaking to an audience. I am not a blogger. I have a blog. Kind of like I am not a speaker, but I do speak. I would prefer not to get up in front of a large group and speak about homeschooling, but if you had questions I would (and have) invite you over for a cup of tea to talk about homeschooling. In fact, I love doing that!

I think I am going to try to keep blogging with that in mind. If you want to join me for a cup of tea, please do! I am going to share about homeschool adventures, brag about how adorable my grandchildren are, share a little about our family life, and enjoy it for what it is. Don't worry about pointing out my spelling errors- I'll notice them some day and fix them. Or not. :)

Comments

  1. Shoot! I find grammar errors in my posts ALL! THE! TIME! And please do brag away on your life behind the scenes, because I find you encouraging, and as a mom to younger kids, I need to hear that there is hope for our kids. :) I receive the hope and encouragement from moms like you!

  2. I am with you, Laurie! In fact, SO many of my past favorite blogs have monetized and sponsored themselves to the point that I don't even read them anymore. And it makes me sad! The blogs, LIKE YOURS, where you just share your personal stories, trials, and triumphs (and adorable pics of grandkids) are the ones that have me sticking around. Those are the bloggers whom I consider my friends. Keep doing what you are doing!!!

  3. I am glad to hear from you. Of course, you can blog whatever you want whenever you want. We will listen...and enjoy.

  4. Me too, me too, me too...I am not a blogger either! Congrats to your newlyweds, by the way. And I SO love those new and incredibly sweet little blessings in your life! I will look forward to you popping into the "sphere" now and then and I'll pretend I'm having a cup of tea;-)

  5. Blogging HAS changed so much! I am overwhelmed by it all, to be honest. I still blog to document and share our homeschool. I still do reviews and I still use affiliate links, but it IS a blessing for the amount of time I spend blogging, but I will never be a pro ~ I'm just no good at social media! It seems like that is where the growth comes from and I can't keep up.

    Happy to see you!

  6. I love how you put that "I am not a blogger, I have a blog" such a humble statement. I'm going to have to start using that one!

Congratulations on all the happy things in life, very exciting!!
Your family is beautiful! Oh, those babies...
