Reading This Week::November 1-5

My middle son was diagnosed with a few eye problems (I'd give you the name(s) if I remembered), so we started his eye exercise program about 6 months ago. I cannot tell you the amazing progress he has made! It is not that he could not read, but reading tired him out so much that it was almost impossible to make progress. He is like a new kid! I just wish we had caught it sooner.

My oldest son has some learning difficulties. For him, it is consistency- we have to do spelling/reading every.single.day. Even missing on weekends is not good for him. It can be easy to get discouraged when a child struggles, and it can be difficult to set aside the one on one time, but I find that if I can grab even just 10 minutes a day with my son we make huge strides over the long haul. Sometimes when I try to wait for a big block of time, it doesn't happen. This week was a good week! We caught lots of moments to read and learn together and I can see progress!

My youngest loves his reading-  he gets to go next door to grandma's house twice a week to do his reading and his phonics workbook. Today, James came home with some rather suprising information--- in his words, "of course I read good, grandma pays me to read". (to which I said, "huh?!") James smiled and said, "in cookies!". Yes, grandma does make cookies with him when he comes over to read- lucky kid! :)

Nothing to do with Reading- Just a Happy Moment of the Week:

Even though this is not a complete "weekly wrap-up" I am linking to Forever, For Always, No Matter What to join this week's wrap-up fun. If you would like to view other wrap-ups or link your own, hop on over!

  2. My daughter also has some special needs when it comes to learning. It's amazing when you find what works for your child, and see them excel. Nothing wrong with a few cookies as an incentive ;) My philosphy is, whatever works! Visiting from Jen's link up. Have a great weekend!

  3. Wow. What insight! I have one who struggles with some reading and I work with everyday when I see the chances pop up. She can grow so discouraged, but she never gives up. Something I completely admire in her.

    I have to say, I would love to have my mother or mother-in-law live next to me...at this time in my life.

    Let's plan on doing a postcard swap...I'll keep you posted!
