A Homeschool Mother's Journal::May 26, 2012
In my life this week... chores, babysitting, school, and more chores!! Oh, the exciting, wonderful life I lead! ;) Thank you God for the privilege of being able to be home to teach and raise my children.
Paul escorted Erin to a swing dance at a local parish tonight. We would all have liked to attend, but have some sick ones in the family, so they are on their own.
Okay- so a little goofy.
In our homeschool this week... reading and spelling and then more of the same. :)
Helpful homeschooling tips or advice to share... I hear from people (more than a few) at this time of year that they are not sure that they can keep going. Some for very valid reasons. But some sound so regretful. They are discouraged by their "failure". They want to keep on, but fear that they are failing their children.
I'll just say it- I failed my (adult) children many times over. The school system will fail your children in many ways too. That does not mean that you should not send your child to school- that just means that you have to face the fact that it is not a perfect system. Neither are we perfect families.
Decide what is most important and focus on that. Do you your best to not fail there. And then let it go. I don't mean in the sense that you don't try your best. But in the sense that you pray and do your very best- and let it go.
Places we're going and people we're seeing... Last weekend we attended a local street festival, "Boogie on the Bayou". We enjoyed the opportunity to enjoy different tastes and hear some super fun music. This weekend we are attending a civil war reenactment. It has been years since we have attended one, but if memory serves me, it should be a lot of fun.
My favorite thing this week was... Watching grandbabies swim! I went to swim lessons to watch my grandson one morning and then that afternoon went to the pool to watch my granddaughter swim- as it turns out she mostly sat in a chair and laughed at her uncle's (my boys) antics in the pool. They really are quite entertaining.
What's working/not working for us... We are in between schedules- not really all school, yet not quite summer either. I will like it better when I get that settled.
Questions/thoughts I have... What to do, what to do... I am struggling with what direction to go next year and what activities to be involved in. Do you ever, as a parent, feel like you might be more attached to some of your children's activities than they are? James wants to play soccer and Mark wants to play flag football. If we do both of those, we should probably drop horses and maybe even our outside art class (financially and schedule). But I love those things!! Need to pray about it and make decisions.
Things I am working on... organizing the school room.
I'm reading... I finally got to reading the sequels to "The Shunning". Only not really. I don't love sequels for the most part- I lost patience for reading them. I did scan the books to make sure that all the right things happened to the right people (seems so). I think if I had a few spare hours to sit on the beach I may have enjoyed these. Things are just very busy right now!
Just checkout out from the library and looking forward to reading- The Myth of Ability: Nurturing Mathematical Talent in Every Child and Family Learning: How to Help Your Children in School by Learning at Home.
I'm cooking... Not much, but I have to say that my husband is wicked with a barbecue! Man can that guy make melt-in-your-mouth chicken.
I'm grateful for... A husband who grocery shops and often cooks, grandbabies that visit, and days that have no activities planned.
I'm praying for... So many things!
A photo, video, link, or quote to share...
Not my usual goofy offering
Okay- so a little goofy.
And a little sweet too.
So glad that Paul would want to escort his sister to the dance and that his sister is glad to have him!
