Flavored Water And Some Comfort Food...
Flavored water? Yes, please.
When I saw this post for day spa apple cinnamon water, I thought it might be nice way to spice up my water- it is! And it is very refreshing!!.
According to the blog that this was pinned this from, Lose Weight by Eating, "both apples and cinnamon raise your metabolism". I don't know about that, but I do know that I drank lots and lots of water today. I can't explain. I just really enjoyed it!
I followed the very simple instructions (if you click on the above link, there is a video)- apples and cinnamon stick in the pitcher, add ice, fill with water. I let mine sit overnight in the fridge. The flavor was much much stronger than I thought it would be! I refilled the pitcher several times during the day- I think I acclimated to the taste plus the refilled water did not have as much time to sit, so it was a lighter flavor after the first few glasses.
I used a Fuji apple this time- we have Granny Smiths from our tree that I will try next. I think the tartness of the Granny Smith will go well with the cinnamon.
I am going to try this one next-

At the risk of being contradictory (this is no health food recipe here!;)), we made this last night.
Can you say comfort food? This Chicken and Dumpling Casserole recipe caught my eye (I don't remember where I first saw it). The recipe I used to make this comes from The Shady Porch blog.
First, it was delicious!! Hubby, boys, and Grandma enjoyed it. Things that we would tweak- it was a bit salty. Next time we won't use any salt to season and will switch to no salt butter. For our oven, the cooking time of 25-30 minutes was a bit short. It was more like 35-40 minutes. And, ours did not brown, so we turned the broiler on for a few minutes at the end. We also decided that we will add veggies next time for more of a "pot pie" taste.
Shady porch tweaked this recipe from Deep Dish South food blog. You can find step by step pictures of assembly there. I am going to print that recipe and compare the two.
Just to be sure I have linked properly:

ReplyDeleteI am going to try the water trick, I drink too much diet soda and I read somewhere that diet soda increasing your appetite. The chicken casserole looks positively sinful which means I would love it:)
ReplyDeleteHuh. Never would've thought...apples, cinnamon and water overnight! Wonder if the kids would like it??
