Wrapping Up The Week::Feb. 27-March 2

To begin with, I should tell you that I am sitting in a completely quiet house. Not a creature is stirring. Because all three boys went to the snow with their sister and her husband (a Christmas gift to the boys). Did I mention it is quiet around here?

The boys are over-the-moon excited to be going to the snow. When we were learning about snow a few years ago, James was honestly surprised to hear that it is cold! Poor deprived boy. He will know that snow is cold after this weekend. ;)

So, this week:

Does any one else make a "silly kids" folder in their picture files? These days when I make new folders for the month, I label one just for such photos. (sometimes also labeled "hijacked camera pics") I don't want to get rid of them, but I am never quite sure what to do with them.

I mean really!

Mondays always begin with horses:

This is Scouty and Mark- Mark has loved this horse since we first began going to the stables and just recently got to start riding her.

James rides this very gentle old lady named Chula. She is a sweetie.

Tuesday is usually our "at home and try to get lots of stuff done" day. We did get a lot done, but we also went to a prayer vigil for the "40 Days for Life" campaign.

There were 5 families in attendance with 15 children all together. It took a chunk out of our day to drive there and back, but I am so glad we did. It was a quiet prayerful hour, but we all came home uplifted.

Wednesday was... well, just crazy. Getting in chores, school, and all that needed to be done in time to drop Paul off at his Wednesday afternoon volleyball (that he loves!) and get the two younger boys to a VIP birthday party was exhausting. And then we spent the WHOLE afternoon at CEC partying it up. Isn't the homeschooling life rough?

The birthday day boy (back left) and his friends.

Mark with his cousin, Baby B. He is the baby whisperer for sure!

Thursday... well this one is easy. For the most part, we washed and folded laundry and packed the boys up to go to the snow. With that and a few school items, we were not done until early evening.

This morning the boys took off at 6:30 a.m. I went to breakfast with a friend to celebrate her birthday and then came home to get some work done in blissful peace. But I really do miss them!

Seeing as I have so much time on my hands, I thought that I'd update on the tortoises that joined our family in July. Taking care of them is a daily task that James mostly takes charge of. Although all the boys usually migrate out to the yard on nice days at some point to join in.

Taking care of them (27sec):

And, if you would like a formal introduction, watch this one (46sec):

The loud crash in one of the videos is just the construction that is going on next
door (that is thankfully almost over!).

Comments

  1. Enjoy the quiet!! And thank you for your sweet comment on my "attitude" post. I am glad that it helped. I have been surprised at the response it got, because really I felt like I was just rambling! Have a great weekend.

  3. LOL I was going to say the same as Discovering Montessori - my girl would LOVE LOVE to start each week on a horse! She can't wait for horse camp this summer! LOL at the silly face! Those captures are always the best!

  5. What a great adventure - snow! I wish I could be a snow bunny out there watching them as they adventure in it :)FABULOUS gift idea!!

Your boys are so blessed! They have parents who recognize their interests and tap into them. My Ester would LOVE to be taking more horse lessons. She will go back to horse camp in June. She can HARDLY wait!

What I love about your boys is how baby friendly they are. Part of being in such a big family. They appear to not be afraid or disinterested in their nephews (and counsins) no matter what age. They remind me of my brothers.

You are doing a great job raising your family, Laurie!

  6. Isn't it funny that even when the kids are gone, and we are enjoying the quiet, we still do miss them!! Great gift from their sister. At first I thought you mistyped "show" as in movie, I guess because we don't have to go anywhere to see the "snow"! Maybe some of us bloggers need to figure out a weekend exchange program for our kids. Yours could come visit us for a weekend and get a taste of a midwest winter, complete with the cold!!

  7. What a wonderful Christmas gift for your daughter to give to her brothers! Time together is so much better than material goods. I know what you mean about the 40 days for life prayer vigil. It is so humbling and I think that's what makes it so worth it. It brings such strong community and meaning to Lent, doesn't it? OK, so my kids have lost interest in our tortoises. Do you want 2 more? hee hee
