The Homeschool Mother's Journal::March 12-16

The Homeschool Mother's Journal

In my life this week... I am following Jen's (Forever, For Always, No Matter What) lead and joining The Homeschool Mother's Journal. I also desperately needed some inspiration to write this week. It has been a bumpy one!

In our homeschool this week... it is all about the basics. The cold that we caught last week knocked my two youngest boys on their bums in a big way. On the good days, we did math drills, typing practice, spelling, and reading. I think we will be back to our version of normal next week.

Homeschooling advice or tips to share... keep at it. Just when you are sure that nothing is working, all of a sudden it does!

I am inspired by... my daughters. At different times this week, I was talking to my two daughters who are moms of their own little ones. I already thought that they are wonderful moms, but I realized just what thoughtful attentive parents they are. I could learn a little from them!

Places we're going and people were seeing... we finally got out on Thursday to join friends and family to celebrate my niece's 13th birthday. She had a game day/lunch at a local salad buffet place. And, we had our weekly Spanish co-op with our friends on Friday- missed last week due to illness.

My favorite thing this week was... this fantastic cake that my niece made for her birthday. It just makes me smile!

What's working/not working for us... All About Spelling. Old news, I know, but I just can't say enough good things about it. We have been using this for almost exactly 2 years (my first blog mention was March 22, 2010). Even though we have been moving at a snails pace, it works for my boys. How do you say "miraculous!"?

Questions/thoughts I have... Should we use Trail Guide to Learning next year? I love what I hear about it. I have tried not to invest too much in new materials as we have plenty, but this just seems like it might be a nice fit for my boys.

Things I am working on... crafty stuff.

First up, is this adorable little egg made from embroidery floss-

Remember those yarn hearts at Disney Family Fun that were all over Pinterest last month?-
I thought I'd try a butterfly. I should not have squished it down so much. I also think the egg shape (cookie cutter) will work better. I was hoping to make these with my 2 yo grandson and granddaughter. I think I'll wait until next year- the yarn really sticks to fingers making it more challenging than I thought.

I am reading... blogs. I am book club drop out. I just can't seem to make myself read a book that requires sustained interest. Although, I might try to get back on it. I just feel like I read so much already!

I am cooking... I shared our super comfort food chicken crescents in this post. But we also made these simple pepperoni and cheese roll-ups for a quick hot lunch. Everyone gave them a thumbs up.
Dip in warm marinara sauce.

I first spied the recipe here at Plain Chicken.

I am grateful for...a husband loves me and supports me through all this craziness! Not that I am not always grateful for him, but this week I am especially so.

I am praying for... a dear, dear family who needs our prayers. It is a private request, but if you feel moved to pray for "Laurie's friends who really need prayer", please do so.

Photo, video, or link to share...

This is just one of those weeks...

They just crack themselves up.
