I Can't Take It Any More!

Yes, occasionally I rant. Boy did I have one last night! I try not to. Most of the time, I don't think much good comes from ranting. My mom could rant. Not to be critical of my mom, just saying I know from both sides how unproductive ranting can be.

This rant might be worth it. In that moment of chaos, when I am sure my kids thought my head was about spin around on my neck, I suddenly had an "ah-ha!" moment. All this stuff needs to go!! Out with the screens. All of them. Or as my mom called TV and would have called all this other stuff too- the boob-tubes! They are in a box and locked in hubby's office where I can't renege even if I want to. I couldn't fit the television in a box- but all those fancy changers are gone. I am not sure we can use our DVD player without them.

I have read enough of the perils of denying our children this "connection to the real world". I denied my older kids and they seem okay to me. Honestly, I don't see this as a forever thing. Maybe just this week and I will think about it this weekend.

And, after weeks of feeling like my kids were constantly bickering, never happy, and always complaining, this is what my boys have quietly and happily been doing all afternoon...

    Good for you, Mama! I think we all need a break from the screen scene sometimes. Like my husband says..."Just go play, that's what we used to do!" Hope you may enjoy some peace:)

    Where did the term "boob tube" come from? That's what my parents called it when they grew angry at it/us! Good for you for changing things. You have been there and done it before,,,you know the positive outcome :)

    My dad called it the "boob-tube" too! Ha! We have these times too. Most of the time we really limit screen time during the week, but they will still watch too much on the weekend. As our weather continues to improve so does their outside time!!

Look at me writing 2 posts so close together!! So... I have loved listening to the podcasts on morning time called "Your Morning Basket". I have listened to all of them. Very inspiring! They are all worthwhile to listen to, but I have to tell you that episode #2 with Andrew Pudewa is a game changer (in the homeschool sense). Week in Review: February 1-5 2016

Lots of baby care around here as the boys' big sister (our second daughter, Jessica) was having her fifth baby. It was a week full of sword fighting, cuddles, disney movies, books, and coloring. It's also been a week full of colds. The 2 year old twins had a cold, which I assume James caught from them (although every one in the world seems to have it, so not necessarily). The problem is that no matter how many times I caution the boys, who can resist cuddling with a sweet little toddler who does not feel well? I guess germs are meant to be shared. In the way of school, we have been in "keep up" mode. Din-spiration Part 6

This is sort of a lighthearted post, but I am going to start by saying that all those in Paris and the World are in my prayers. There are never words when something so unspeakable happens. As it has been pointed out, it happens far more often that we usually hear about in places that are more obscure to most of us. I'm going to continue with this planned post as most of us still have "normal life" to attend to and families to feed amidst this very stressful backdrop. To keep myself accountable, I was going to keep up posting about my crusade to eat at home. I have failed the last few weeks, but the resolve to eat at home has not! The great thing is that on the days when resolve wanes in me, my husband picks it up. He is often the one to encourage me that he can stop by and pick up an ingredient I forgot, or to step in and create a dish himself.
