Speaking of New Year's Resolutions...
Does anyone else just cringe at that?... after years of failed resolutions, I used to balk at even the thought of such things. Now, I try to take a more moderate approach. Turning the calendar to the new year is a like having a blank slate. It is a time step back and evaluate how things are going. What activities are working for us? What activities are we interested in pursuing? Are there things that we would like to do/accomplish as a family this year? It is a great time to get these conversations going.
But, if you are in the mood for making resolutions...
I am reading One Bite at a Time by Tsh Oxenreider, a digital book that is the suggested (not mandatory) January reading for "Booking It 2012" at Life as Mom. The idea of this book is not to make an all at once resolution, but to make reasonable changes "one bite at a time" (get the title now ;)).
So far, I love it. I did get nasty cold just after beginning the book, so starting on any of the "bites" (except more sleep!) was not in the cards. Today, I made my morning routine list and am working on my evening routine (two of the bites).
Bite #1 addresses beginning your day (after your morning routine) by hitting your most dreaded task first. In the book, it is referred to as "eating your frog". Sadly, I have decided that "eating my frog" is actually getting out bed in the morning at a reasonable hour. I guess mine has to come before my morning routine. The good news- it is all a down hill road from there! :)

LOL I love my sleep too. I am trying very hard to be up by 8 but the kids are not cooperating:( I will have to look for this book because I haven't made any plans to set up resolutions for the new year in many many years:)
ReplyDeleteI am! I always feel so overwhelmed right after Christmas, just want to slouch in a chair and be for awhile without having to think of things. I read and am inspired by so many amazing women who have their lists ready. What I end up doing is usually based on what season of life I am in and I try to keep it focused with a spiritual base.
ReplyDeleteAnd your "eating your frog" line...so many nights I lie down and think...wow! I've been waiting for this moment since I woke up :)
That is the hardest thing for me, eating my frog. I am such a procrastinator! Oh how I wish that I could conquer procrastination!
