Week in Review:::In Brief

Last week, we had little time to do school. This week, I have little time to post about school! So, here is our week- "in brief".

Spanish:
This is my 4th year of hosting a Spanish co op at my house. The lovely lady in the back left of the picture, my sister's mother-in-law, teaches the children. We use Sing and Speak Spanish for the most part- Senorita Joyce also brings games and books for extras. My kids treasure this time with their friends. And, they love their Spanish class.

Geography:
New to this year, we have added a geography class to our co op. We are using the Literature Guide to Geography by Beautiful Feet books. Our first lessons will follow "Paddle-to-the-Sea", a toy canoe carved by a young Indian boy, from Lake Nipigon in Canada through the Great Lakes and out to the Sea. Above is a sampling of the maps we are working on. My youngest student is 7 and my oldest 13, and I think they are all doing a great job.  For a better look at the maps, you should be able to click on the picture to make it larger.

Five in a Row Light:
I previously posted that we "rowed" Wee Gillis in a conversational style. I happily moved on thinking all was well. This week my boys (Mark and James) asked me when we were going to finish that Scottish book- ?! They wanted to have something for their lapjournal---I wasn't going to say no to that request. :) Not wanting to go back redo the whole study, I pulled a few things from homeschool share, found a Wee Gillis looking coloring page, and printed a few pictures to create an easy to put together page that they were pleased with.

Just For Fun:
 Mirror Maze Fun!
After working more hours than reasonable over the last few weeks, my dear hubby took a day off to play with us on Monday. It was a nice treat. :)

Nature Study:
A last minute add on here- this magnificent creature landed outside our door today, so the boys spent a few minutes with it.

I hope everyone had a wonderful week! :)

  6. Spanish is something that I've always wanted to get to, but never seem to make it. Is Sing & Speak something that a non-spanish speaking teacher could use?
