This Week:::October 17-21
As usually happens at this time of the school year, I am spending time evaluating/reevaluating how things are going, so this "Week in Review" is a little review and a little evaluation.
Getting in to the swing of things: I seem to alternate weeks. One week I think, "we are finally getting in a groove!". The next week I think not so much. This is my not so much week! I need to work on a better morning routine and going to bed at a reasonable hour. No matter how much I want the peace and quiet that is to be had only after bedtime, this has got to be a must. I am going to work on it!
What We Read: This week we read "The Littles". I am realizing that our 7yo does not remember many of the "little kid" reads that we have done in the past, so I am adjusting our reading to include some the fun reads from when the older boys were younger.
3R's: I am going for consistency. Forget big plans and goals. Just do it. Each day, I try to be sure that I work with each one of the boys for at least a few minutes on the basics. My focus is especially on reading.
Extras- Trying to find that balance of how busy we should be is tough. We love our outside activities, but my boys are more and more drawn to wanting time at home. Today, Mark (10yo) asked me if we could plan a "just relaxing day". We chose a day and we are planning ahead to get our school done and chores caught up so that we can just hang out all day- their relaxing day already has a pretty full itinerary. ;-)
Adjusting: In line with my above statement about reading, I am trying to make adjustments in our schedule to allow for James (7yo). There are so many wonderful field trips, movies, books, and activities that James does not remember. It is time to have a redo on some of them.

Favorite Memory of the Week:
While listening to an audio of Paddle-to-the-Sea, the boys gathered around the book on the floor.
I forgot to mention that I am linking up with Forever, For Always, No Matter What and See Jamie Blog. You can visit both blogs to see what other homeschool families have been up to this week.

I hear ya with getting into the swing of things! This week I was wondering if anyone remembers anything and feeling like a complete failure. I am glad it's Friday and hoping and praying next week is better :) Thanks for being one of my faithful linkers!!! Have a great weekend.
ReplyDeleteI love Paddle to the Sea!! There is also a video of it free online - it is wonderful! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LfQuTBmW4RU
ReplyDeleteWe also love The Littles.... I need to pull them out again for my youngest. We also do Five In A Row. I hope you'll visit my blog: http://homeschoolsuccess.blogpsot.com I found you via the Weekly Wrap-Up!
Lori. I totally understand that morning routine/early bedtime. For me, I feel so discombobulated if those schedules are off. I was just thinking about those re-do's myself...in a few years though. Have a peace filled weekend!
ReplyDeleteWe've been in need of a few more relaxing days, too! We loved Paddle-to-the-Sea, but didn't know there was audio version. How fun!
