Week in Review::Working On Summer Mode
After a cranky beginning to the week (on my part), I tried to reevaluate (of course that had to include a blog post) what I hope for during these summer months. I think we are working in the right direction.
A few things have helped, but big one is that I am sticking firmly to our morning routine. I am being much more relaxed than during the school year- no time frame here. The other thing that I am doing is set clear expectations for the day. My boys seem to function better when they know exactly what is happening for the whole day.
Monday-
Our super hot (and cranky!) day. We did get to horse lessons which is always fun for the boys.
Tuesday-
Had a family meeting and worked on rethinking our summer plans.
The highlight of the day for all was...
A special visitor. We were lucky enough to have my sister (I am a new auntie again!) come by with her little one, "baby B". The boys loved their special time with this little guy.
In trying to come up with one special little thing to do each day (especially when we are having a "stay at home and do a little school day"), I decided on making a bag bomb using the instructions from our "Totally Irresponsible Science" book. This definitely lifted the mood!
As an added bonus the boys got to spend the late afternoon swimming with three of their big sisters, and their niece and nephew. The day ended with some "frog hunting" (toads, I know, but they call it frog hunting).
Friday-
Another routine day. Our pick-me-up was this challenge from the "Think" blog. I started following this blog a while back, but was inspired to act on one of the challenges after seeing another homeschooler blog their experiences.

I joined in "No Ordinary Blog Hop" for the first time this week. I have to confess that I did not really understand how those things (blog hops) work, so I stayed away from them. The only downfall I can see is that there may be too much inspiration out there!! Some pretty fantastic bloggers are sharing their stuff.

We spent some time playing our new game, Forbidden Island. My boys are loving this.
Wednesday-
I woke up determined to not be cranky! :)
We had a fairly routine day.
Note the evil grin here!

Thursday-
A relaxing day at home. A little school, a few chores...
James timed himself to see how long it took to do his math problems.
He likes to time things. :)
And our "morale" lifting activity was to make these frozen chocolate milks!

I think they broke the rules by shoring up their "suspension" bridge,
but they were so excited about their idea, I let it go...
But then they decided they wanted to see how many coins it would
take without the shoring up, so it all worked out. ;)
*James' (7yo) comment on this project- "This is beast!" Gotta love it.*

Sounds pretty darn good to me! I love the baby toes!!! So sweet :)
ReplyDeleteP.S. Your last two comments you left me gave me a good chuckle today!
I'd say you had a darn good week! Definitely trying those frozen milk drinks - my kids will love them. I like that picture of your new nephews toes, too cute. I'm glad you joined No Ordinary Blog Hop, you have lots of great things to share with others :) Thanks for linking up, have a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteI'm stopping over from WUTW and imagine my surprise to see your link to my frozen chocolate milk idea! I hope your boys loved it too!!
ReplyDeleteLori, thanks for stopping by my blog. I LOVE the bridge idea! I went to check out that blog and WOW so many great ideas for hands on things to make kids think! I am going to start using those prompts with my kids. It looks like your week was fairly mellow. Ours is crazy right now since we are getting ready to send our 16 year old daughter to Africa on a mission trip. She leaves Tuesday morning at 4am. We are just trying to get a break, do home-oriented chores, and relax as much as possible right now. :)
ReplyDeleteWonderfully fun week!
