A Homeschool Mother's Journal::June 1, 2012

In my life this week... School, chores, activities, and more of the same with a few visits in between. Plus a fun night out with ***my*** friends to celebrate a friend's birthday! Went to see The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel. I really enjoyed it!
A fun visit at the park with grand-babies.
In our homeschool this week... We are winding down our activities. This week was the last official day of volleyball for this school year. And James' homeschool sports program finished up last week as well.

Paul is front and center reaching for the ball.
James with his Pinata booty.
Helpful homeschooling tips or advice to share... Don't collect too much stuff. I am still trying to pare down, but it overwhelming.

Places we're going and people we're seeing... We spent Monday at a Civil War Reenactment. The people who put these are on are amazing. The are passionate about what they do and are so generous in sharing their knowledge.

My favorite thing this week was...

Best thank you note ever! What a sweetie.

I'm reading... Lord of the Rings book #1 with the boys. We started it a while ago, but have been having a hard time finding a time when we are all together to read. We had a little break and I thought the boys would forget what was going on- not at all! They remembered down to the last sentence read. An added bonus- I just ordered this book from the library for my Kindle! My old eyes are having a hard time reading the small faded print on the book page. Makes me seriously happy.

I'm cooking...

A Crockpot recipe

4-6 chicken breasts
2 cans cream of mushroom (or  chicken)
1- 8 ounce brick cream cheese
1 packet zesty Italian dressing mix

Line the edges of the Crockpot with the chicken, pour the cans of soup in the middle, place chunks of cream cheese in the soup, sprinkle it all with the Italian mix. Cook on low for 6 hours. Serve over rice or noodles.

I don't love "cream of..." recipes, but this one actually tastes pretty good and is doable (like 5 minutes to assemble) when you are in a rush.

***I got this recipe through a yahoo group years ago, so I can't give credit where it is due. I did pin one similar to it, but it turned out to be linked wrong, so I don't want to share that.

I'm grateful for... The years (I think 5) that I have hosted Spanish class at my house. I have had the most fun sharing in these young people's lives. Next year I pass the torch to another mom. I am sort of sad.

Playing between classes today:

Volleyminton-  Badminton over a volleyball net.
Hand-baseball. 1 ball/4 paper plates and its "play ball!".
I'm praying for... My children. Especially all of my adult children.

A photo, video, link, or quote to share...

  1. My kids would have enjoyed the Civil War re-enactment, especially since we are studying about Abe Lincoln. That is a nice note! Great picture of your daughter and son by the flag. Over the next couple of weeks I need to give our school room a big overhaul!

  3. Oh, the Civil War re-enactment looks like lots of fun! We've done a little of this once, but the kids wanted to do MORE and really take on parts. It's a great learning tool though, huh?

What a sweet thank you letter!

  4. I would love to go to a Civil War re-enactment.

I'm working on paring down my stuff, but since I still have a 4 year old I find myself putting it back on the shelf--just in case!

  5. You are absolutely spot on about those people behind the re-enactments!!! Their passion makes everyone love the re-enactments. And let's hear it for some woman to woman time. So glad you had that chance. Very, very important, especially to moms who work at home! Hoping your next week is just as rewarding :)

  6. Oh my goodness, Laurie...Lots of things have been going on around your house! We are just getting back from a little vacation so I'm having fun getting caught up around the bloggy world:) Love that thank you note and sweet photos of your family. Was that re-enactment in Knight's Ferry, by chance? Wishing you a blessed summer!
