Pantry Cabinets
A long time ago, I mentioned my kitchen cabinet redo. I said I would share. It only took a year or two or three...
Anyway, let me just tell you that I think my husband is a genius.
And an awesome builder.
When I met him years ago, he was a furniture maker. That company floundered and he took his talents to work as a cabinetmaker for a building contractor. From there, he headed in to business for himself.
It is tough to eek out a living as a cabinetmaker or furniture maker, so he moved on to building contractor.
Now he is a building contractor with some mad cabinet and furniture making skills. Someday I'll show you the dresser he made for me about 35 years ago that still looks almost brand new.
I digress...
The front of these cabinets used to be our kitchen wall.
By building around the hall closet and the bathroom plumbing that is on the other side, hubby was able to make our wall in to a pantry. I have mentioned the size of our house before- anyone could guess that there is no room for a pantry here!
We have debated what do with the open cubbies- put clear shelves, make shadow boxes... for now, some favorite books, pictures, and such sit on them. Except for the deepest cubby...
Most of the cabinets are about this deep. This is the baking cabinet.

There you have it. For years, we dreamed how we were going open that wall and use the space. Now that it is done, I love it.

It holds our plug in things, and keeps our keys at the ready.
I love, love, love my spice cabinet. It backs up to the hall closet, so it is the narrowest space.
The soup/can cabinet is right below the spices.
Most of the cabinets are about this deep. This is the baking cabinet.

Just below the plug-in cubby, this storage is the deepest along the wall.
It is a little out of the way, but it is perfect for those extra large items.
Ta-da. The whole pantry wall.

He and my husband sound like clones! Their background is identical, Laurie, except instead of making a business for himself with cabinets, he builds custom roll outs shelves for existing cabinets. (I think they'd get along quite well if they ever met!)
ReplyDeleteYour cabinets look beautiful! They look like furniture. Perfect! I'm so excited for you because I truly appreciate the art and work and thought that goes into craftsmanship.
Enjoy your new space!

ReplyDeleteI love, love your cabinets. We just had a pantry and some small shelves installed and I was downright giddy. It really does make life so much easier to have a well organized kitchen. Your husband did a beautiful job. I love how he really used each and every inch of your space. Gorgeous!
