A Mundane Morning in the Life of...

this homeschool mom/housewife. Actually, weren't we promoted to "domestic goddess" sometime in the 80's?

I start the day with cleaning my bedroom- dust bunnies be gone! Along the way I find a $25 visa gift card. It has an expiration date of 8/12, so I am pleased that I found it and immediately begin thinking of things that I have wanted to pick up at the store. Oh, the possibilities!

On with the day. In preparation for a library trip, I check my online account information. I know I have a few dollars in fines and I want to come prepared to pay. Only- eeeee gads! Not just a few dollars, but many dollars are owed. Somehow, in the weekly checks of my library account, I missed that three books had been placed in the "lost" category. That was definitely a few steps back in the money flow.

I scour my wallet, counting every penny. I tell James, who was promised that his choice of "out lunch" would be picked up for him as a consolation for being too sick to go on a planned outing with dad and big brothers this morning, that I may need to borrow some money. He somewhat reluctantly hands over his allowance.

On to the library to shamefacedly (could there be a worse library patron?) figure out what is going on with my account. The very nice library man helps me figure out how to renew the remaining outstanding books that I was unable to renew from my computer due to over the limit fines. Then he returns two stubborn items that would not go through the space-age-scanner-returner-thingy. He proceeds to adjust my fines as the returned books are not registering. Grand total after adjustments? Thirty-six dollars and some odd change!  Make that plus $25 and minus $37 for the morning. He could not make the found visa card work toward the payment for some reason that I can't remember right now. I did manage to scrape together enough (every last cent in my wallet minus James' money) to pay the fine down to the allowable limit so that I could check out my "on hold" books! Whew...

Deep in thought about such important things as planning a teen group meeting, I leave the library and drive right passed Jack in the Box (the chosen lunch) and realize that I am at the mall. It took me a second to even remember what I was doing! Turn around, get back to Jack and order. I approach the pick-up window with the found visa card in hand (sure that was not going to work), AND, magically, it did! I did a happy dance in my seat- the lady actually laughed at me (in a nice way). I headed home with the grease laden bag full of food for James to console himself with.

Now the boys (who are all home now) are enjoying looking through these library books. We might have a new interest in our house. So fun!
