Homeschool Mother's Journal::September 7, 2012

In my life this week…

We are trying to get the routine down. It is working... not so well!! The mindset is just not there. We are rusty at "routine"!

In our homeschool this week…

We have enjoyed our studies so far! We are up to reading, math, and history. We take things slow to begin the school year.

For some reason Mark thought our history lesson was just hysterical!

We played "make ten" go fish with our guest, who comes over once a week to "play math". I asked James to join us- Mark just thought we looked like we were having fun!

I was reminded of the idea for this game while reading Let's Play Math (priced seriously inexpensively as it is the beta version). We used Dis*ney Uno cards- a serious plus as our guest is a huge Dis*ney fan!

Helpful homeschool tips or advice to share…

It's all about the routine!! I don't mean scheduled down to the minute, but a household that runs smoothly. Well, smoothly with a few bumps thrown in.

Places we’re going and people we’re seeing…

We had sort of a surprise visit from grandchildren on Sunday. We got to keep them for the morning. Auntie Erin, who is rarely around, took the opportunity to hog them to herself- also giving me the rare opportunity (at least compared to her brothers) to share a picture of her.

We also had some dinner guests. Family friends, who just had their 6th baby, joined us for dinner. The kids (and adults sometimes too) had fun playing darts, air hockey, bocce ball, climbing trees, and hanging out.

Things I am working on…

Our school room organization. If I had a dime for every time I typed that on my blog... It is coming along. One more big push should do it and I can share pictures of the whole room.

I’m cooking…

Does it count if I served it? My oldest daughter brought us strawberries from the farmer's market, and our youngest daughter made that to die for dip using cream cheese and that fluffy marshmallow stuff. It can not be good for you, but it is oh, so good!!

I’m grateful for…

Recreational sports leagues!! Like really, truly just for recreation. No five practices a week and traveling all over the place (can you tell we have BTDT!)

I’m praying for…

Family, friends, neighbors, ... fellow homeschoolers.

A photo, video, link or quote to share...

My daughter, Jess, shared this collage with me via F*B. She had stopped by our house for a visit one day and to let her daughter visit our zoo.  After her daughter had been out of sight for a few minutes, she went looking and found her snuggled up with the bunny.  Jess quickly grabbed her camera and ran back, thinking that the moment would be gone.

Well, our bunny can take some lovin'. She just hung around to be soak up the attention and Jess got these shots.
