Week in Review::A Little Early
I am off to dr appts tomorrow, so I thought I would jot down a few thoughts about this week even though it is only Thursday. Hope this post finds you well and that you have a wonderful Friday!
This Week:
Download N Go- We are still learning about Astonishing Animals. Yes, this is week 3 of a 1 week unit study! Because this is an add-on to our regular school day (or was suppose to be), I have decided that when we do the next study, I will just plan to do one "day" a week. Somehow, deciding that makes me feel like I am less behind.
This week we are finishing up the "astonishing" Loggerhead Turtle! We have enjoyed learning more about this magnificent creature! Now my boys are talking about places to go on vacation where they can meet a Loggerhead Turtle in person (never mind that they have never been away for vacation!).
All About Spelling- we are still working on this. For us, especially my oldest son, this program has worked miracles. We are working our way through Level 2 and it has been just as successful as Level 1. (I have several posts about our experience with AAS linked under labels in the side bar)
time4learning- I did roll our free trial over to a membership for James (7yo). For posting a review, I was able to get another month free with a paid month. James continues to enjoy this. This week he has worked on fractions for math and weather for science. Tomorrow will be LA and Social Studies.
Swimming- Loving the swimming lessons.
Attitude- After my post about being just a bit burned out, I have been pondering ways to keep the joy in our homeschool. I love this post that I read at Life Homemade. It is about spending time with dad, but it is so appropriate for homeschooling as well. Lou Ann (author of said blog) writes this about our children-"They just want us. They want us to look them in the eyes, laugh, enjoy, interact". Her idea for activity jars (you will have to read her post ;)) has inspired me- I am thinking of ways to use them in our homeschool and our family life. So thankful for this timely post!
Good Weather! How is it possible that I could not even walk a few feet to my garage last week without getting soaked by the rain and today this:

Fun Stuff- There was a Lego convention held near our home- dad and boys spent a happy afternoon there.
Even though I won't be around to link up, you can go to Weird, Unsocialized Homeschoolers to see what other homeschoolers are up to this week. (back home and linking up!:)) I usually link to Jen's blog at Forever, For Always No Matter What as well- Jen may not have a link up this week, but her blog is always worth a visit- lots of homeschool, family, and faith inspiration can found there!

My boys love turtles too. We have often talked about going to see them on Jekyll Island in GA. Jacob would have been crazy to go to a Lego convention!! I am going to read the post you mentioned, I am interested in the activity jars :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for the comments about our blog! Have a great weekend.
That Lego convention would fascinate me. :)
ReplyDeleteGlad the weather has improved -- it has done so here, too, and I'm very glad after a week FULL of thunderstorms!
Oh the legos are too cool! Glad to hear you found some burnout inspiration-I'll have to check out the blog, her quote was great!
ReplyDeleteI know my son would love to go to a Lego convention! The closest we got was the "Wheels, Wings, and Waves: A Lego World of Transportaion" travelling exhibit.
ReplyDeleteThe activity jars reminded me about a post I did for a Boredom Jar. I'm not sure if it's quite the same thing that inspired you, but I followed the explanation post with a terribly long post listing some ideas that can be copied and printed off for your own boredom jar.
Incase this is of interest...
explanation is here, http://edventuresedm.blogspot.com/2010/11/idea-boredom-jar.html
and the list is here, http://edventuresedm.blogspot.com/2010/11/super-scary-long-post-of-boredom-jar.html
Thanks for the Listmanias ;-)
I must get some legos! We don't have any (I just have a girl) but I know we could have tons of fun with them!
ReplyDeleteThis looks like it was a fun week- lots of variety and fun stuff! Those Lego creations look so neat. My 10 year old would love to have seen them.
