Week in Review::A Quiet Week At Home

We are on week 2 of the 1 week study we purchased from Download N Go. ;) I realized pretty much at the get-go that this unit would take us more time. We would have to be home for 5 days in a row to make it work.

The Learning Curve:

The Download N Go unit study has worksheets for gathering information as well as lapbook components to complete.

Mark (10yo) was anxious to put all of his work in his notebook. He has enjoyed the creative aspect as well as the satisfaction of "making my own book" on animals. This is working for him.

James (7yo), being the little brother, was completely on board with Mark. However, for the next Download N Go that we do, I will have James assemble only the lapbook components.  In theory he wants to do what his big brother does- in reality it is a bit too much.

New this week:

I took a "back seat" to the learning process with our Astonishing Animals study. I pulled up the ebook, showed Mark and James the page we were on, and turned over the computer mouse. I am pretty sure I am never getting near that mouse again- the boys thoroughly enjoyed their independence.

I did actually sit right next to them, but was able to help Paul with his math while they went to work.

While they were happy to take over at the computer, the boys still enjoyed me reading to them. Some of our really great "Astonishing Animal" reads are in this post.

*Paul is scarce in these posts about Download N Go because, as a voracious animal book reader and movie watcher, he honestly knows all of the answers to all of the questions already- our first animal study, the Aye-Aye, was new to him so he hung out with us for most of that day.

This was a pretty quiet week for us. Co op (Spanish and Geography) was canceled to due to too many sick kiddos, sports was canceled due to a deluge that rivals the one Noah built an ark for, and there are so many accidents on the road that I don't want to drive if I don't have to! Our only major disruption was doctor/dentist appointments which always mess up the schedule a bit.

I forgot to mention that I linked this post to

Comments

  1. They look as they really are enjoying their independence. My girls are enjoying that aspect as well. Ester started a unit on Texas history for this 4th qtr. and she is glowing in the independence that comes from it.

    Good week! Enjoy your weekend!!
