Week in Review::The One About Download 'N Go
"Astonishing Animals" by Download 'N Go made up
the lion's share of our school this week:
Day 1: Aye-Ayes
My boys, who are absolute animal nuts, know more random facts about more obscure animals than you can shake a stick at, so it was fun for me to introduce them to something new! They, in turn, had a great time impressing dad with their new found knowledge about these fun little primates.
These lapjournals are the boys' books, so if they choose to put something that may not be entirely accurate in the interest of creativity, I am okay with that. That is not always the case, but I want them to make this their own.
James is a stickler for detail and will choose facts over creativity any day. :)
Day 2: Wolverines
No pictures yet, but we did find a great documentary to go along with this study on neflix instant watch! We started "Wolverines" on Weds. and will finish up on Friday. The "days" can be finished in one day, but, with our other obligations, we are not able to do that. We are home all day tomorrow (Friday), so we may even get to Komodo Dragons!
The Download 'N Go does have lapbook elements, but a large part of the work is worksheets (at least with this animal study). My boys want to put all of their work in their lapjournals so they fold, cut, and glue to make it happen. Mark is much more willing to go out on a limb to cut and glue his information, James is more cautious. Both turned out well.
Here is our post on how we notebook/lapbook/lapjournal.
In my "Inbox" this week:
My daughter sent me an email. I always enjoy emails from my children... when I opened it, this is what I saw:

Eeewww gross! But, very sweet of her to share her worm dissection with me.
Interests (old and new) around here:
On the creative side, my boys have been digging in to their old toy/model car bucket, disassembling the cars, painting them, and putting them together again. Of course, now my back porch looks like a miniature car junkyard! :)
Thankful to be feeling better this week after a not so pleasant cold! I hope all of you are well and had a wonderful week.
I am linking this wrap-up to over at Forever, For Always, No Matter What. Join in! Or just go and see what other homeschoolers are up to this week.
A little late, but I am also joining in with Weird, Unsocialized Homeschoolers.

We took a really cool field trip yesterday (I'll post about it this weekend) and thought of your boys. It was all about exotic animals. Really cool. Your week certainly had some really fun stuff in there. Maybe your boys can teach us a thing or two about dogs. Right now, I told them "no" to pets that Mom will most likely have to take care of. With that said, I would have no idea where to start with dogs as pets except I don't want smelly or shedding ones :) (Pretty stiff requirements!) Let us know about the Dragon unit. Sounds really cool!
ReplyDeleteI've read a lot of good things about Download n' Go. We've never tried them though. (It always seems like we already have a lot going on! LOL) Ewww on the worm dissection! LOL Thanks for stopping by my blog!
ReplyDeleteJessy
What a great week! I love the lapjournal idea. I think we'll have to use that one next year :)
ReplyDeleteI enjoy reading about how your boys put together their notebooks. I love boys, they find the most interesting things to create/destroy ever! Enjoy that Wolverine documentary :) Thanks for linking up again and have a great weekend.
ReplyDeleteGlad you are feeling better!
This is on our schedule for next week. We did Sunny Seashells last week!
ReplyDeleteHi Lori! I wanted to answer your question about our Geography curriculum. We do use ABeka for Geography. However, I supplement quite a bit using printables from the internet (edhelper.com has some good ones, Download N Go, etc). The Map Skills workbook from ABeka is wonderful to use for teaching continents and states, as well as how to read maps. Next year, I hope to dig a little deeper into the history behind the the locations.
ReplyDeleteI have one that is a stickler for details over creativity. Sounds like a fun week!
