This Week::The One With The Graduate

This is my amazing daughter, Erin. I try to stay away from mommy brags (at least too often), but I figure an auspicious occasion like this deserves a little bragging.

I remember, years ago, reading about some local high school graduates. The local paper gave a lot of type to the very public accomplishments of those young people. Service awards, accolades for musical talent, multiple club affiliations, travel abroad, sports accomplishments,
and more were touted about these graduates.

It made me consider the much quieter accomplishments of homeschool graduates that I knew. Rarely is anyone going to stand at a podium and tout their accomplishments (unless they fit the mold that the world has set for being considered successful).

So, on this very small podium (so to speak) I would like to take a moment to tout my daughter's accomplishments.

This amazing girl watches her Goddaughter (niece) while her sister works, she makes time to spend with her nephew every week, she helps me by driving her brothers countless places, her auntie (who is expecting baby #5) counts on her to help shuttle her children to their events, and she has taken on a new task of helping to care for two little girls who recently lost their mom.

In addition to these things, she enjoys participating in and helping prolife causes in our area, and has started volunteering at a local food and clothing pantry. Another cause near to her heart is a homeschool PE program that meets twice a month that she helped to start a few years ago and has run this year. And, (yes, there is more!) she can be found helping with the girls' oratory at our church on most Friday nights.

I realize that these are not typical school accomplishments that would show up on a transcript, but I am very proud of the giving person that Erin has become and the great attitude she keeps
through all of these endeavors.

Adding on a note: Just to let you know, Erin does also have lots of fun hanging out
with her homeschool friends, playing volleyball, going to the beach, and doing other "normal" teenagerish things. :)

This is not a standard "wrap-up", but this has been the big event in our lives this week. We wind up this year by seeing off another homeschool graduate. I know there are the dreaded gaps in her education, but I also know that she is prepared to take on whatever comes next.

Erin's verse that she chose for her graduation profile-

1 Timothy 4:12
Don’t let anyone think less of you because you are young. Be an example to all believers in what you say, in the way you live, in your love, your faith, and your purity.
