Geography Notebooks
Notebooking is not new to us. I love my son's history notebook from years ago. More recently, we have been creating lapbooks or a combination of lapbooking and notebooking that might be called a lapjournal. I did this post a while ago that explains some of the methods we use. I also have a page below my blog header with examples of some of our lapbooks and notebooks.
Notebooking is different than lapbooking not just in presentation, but in that it tends to a long term project. Once we made the commitment to documenting our Galloping the Globe studies using the notebook pages, I wanted to get things organized so that we (I should say "I") would follow through.

Binders labeled and ready to go:
A section labeled for general geography and one section
for each continent-
for each continent-
These sample pages are a mix from our China and Korea studies (I don't want to confuse anyone!) and some are not complete. I tried to include some from each students' notebook, but I couldn't honestly tell just looking at the pictures which page was complete by who. Most of the notebook pages are from Galloping the Globe's activity CD-ROM unless otherwise noted.
Page 1 for each section is a map of that continent-
First page for each country is a flag that has been colored-
Next a map with a key facts box-
I like the detail of this map from Enchanted Learning, so we added it in-
A simple country report page-
I really like the information that is included for most of the countries, but I find this particular page confusing. Putting information about S. Korea on N. Korea
(computer graphic at top left) was not well thought out,
but it is not an issue with most of the pages.
Each student can choose their own animal to document.
I am keeping my eye out for additional pages that will be fun to add to the
notebooks like this one from the Dover sampler-
I also plan to print pictures of activities that we have done. So far, that would be playing ping-pong and making egg drop soup for our study of China.
A picture dictionary of terms using these geography flashcards
is going in the general geography section-
