Picture Book Challenge::Lipizzaner Stallions, Rock Sculptures, A Dolphin, and A Funny Book
Running With Horses by Alison Lester- I had the opportunity to read this to my boys and hubby. All of us were moved by this beautifully written story. It was inspired by the story of the rescue of the Lipizzaner stallions during WWII. My only reservation in being totally in love with this book is that it is a fictional story. I can only imagine the real life drama that surrounded this event and wonder if there was not a true story that could have been built on. Either way, it was well worth reading.
If Rocks Could Sing- a discovered alphabet by Leslie McGuirk- I have to say that my boys looked at me like the rocks were in my head not in the book when I asked them to look at this book with me. I think their dignity was wounded for a second. Once I explained to them and hubby how intrigued I was when I saw this book on the library's "new book" shelf, they sort of settled in. By the second letter, they were impressed as well. The author shares "these beautiful sculptures, little works of art" that make this book. One that I would add to my library if I still had littles at home. I might just still for my grandchildren.
Winter's Tail by Juliana Hatkoff, Isabella Hatkoff, and Craig Hatkoff- The story of this dolphin that lost her tail in a crab trap is what inspired the recent big screen movie A Dolphin's Tale. My boys saw the movie with their dad, but still really enjoyed listening to this book about the real real story. With plenty of photographs of Winter, this book makes a pretty amazing read.
It's a Book by Lane Smith- Another one recommended over at Miss Marple's Musings, I was happy to find it at our library! This book is great! I was not sure that my boys would get the humor as they are not that computer savvy but they did. This book does not waste words- there are few, but they elicit plenty of laughs (at least from my family). A Jackass (yes, he is called that in the book) sits next to a monkey and begins inquiring about the book the monkey is reading. After finding out that this book does not text, tweet, Wi-Fi, and more, Jackass wants to know what this book can do... I don't want to give a spoiler, so I'll leave it at that. I am not sure that the littlest picture book listeners will quite get this, but everyone else will! :)

ReplyDeleteThe horse book immediately caught my attention. I admit I am a horse fan. This looks like a good one to add to my collection. The rocks one looks perfect for my first grade teachers. Thanks.
