Up for a Challenge #6- Invent Aircraft
You can find the this challenge and more at Delightful Learning blog. The original challenges were submitted each week. Since then the links have changed so I have removed them from this post.
The goal of this activity is to create, using a predetermined set of materials, an aircraft. There are rules for how long each step of the project may take and how the project is to be presented in the end (in this case, it is to be "launched"). If this all seems like gibberish, check the above link
.
The boys put their heads together to plan.
Scoring: You will receive:
A. 3 points for each second your aircraft is in the air beyond the taped line.
That would be maybe 1 pt. :)
B. Up to 30 points for how creatively you use the materials.
I was would give 25 pts. for the re-purposing the boys did to create a second aircraft
C. Up to 20 points for how well your team works together.
The boys had fun and worked well together (for the most part), so I'll say 20 pts. (probably being generous, but I am the mom ;))
My guys struggled with this particular challenge- they just could not "picture it" in their heads. I broke my rule about not letting them see the solutions and went to the computer- as it turns out, the pictures from this one post were accidentally deleted!! So, we are still not sure that they had the right idea, but I am not sure it matters! :)
Our Challenge Box

ha ha! Love the picture of them on the roof! And sorry again about the pictures. And you are right ~ there is no one correct solution. It is a challenge to think creatively and come up with their own solution. Great job! =)
