Wrapping It Up For The Week
Around the House:
Believe it or not, I am still putting Christmas stuff away. Not all of it- just some stragglers! I am also sticking to my New Year's resolution of decluttering. Fifteen minutes each day this week in the boys' room has worked wonders. The boys take turns assisting- all of them at once would be too much. To aid in the effort, I positioned a lined trash can right outside the door on the back porch for donations to be dropped in as we go. When it is full, it will all be delivered to a local charity.
What's Working For Us:
Getting back to what I know works for us. I know my boys don't work to their full potential in a traditional school format. While I see the benefit of attacking some skills that way, I need to remember to keep it hands-on and/or interactive as much as possible. We have been playing more games, reading more together, and using the white board to work on school together (my kids love the white board).
Organizing:
I have never been a stickler for "name and date on your page", but all my boys' handwriting is beginning to look alike. Lately, it seem that papers are all getting scooped up and piled out of the way- leaving me to decipher which paper belongs to which student. And, even if I know which student the paper belongs to, it is a huge help if I know when the work was completed! I often base a new day's work off of previous progress made. Like today- Mark is struggling with his multiplication problems (too many steps!:)). I will use the paper he completed today to create the problems he is to solve on Monday. So, *paper turned in + name + date* is ideal!
Getting Moving:
Playing Hot Lava Monster at the park today with other homeschool families- that is my son teaching all the little kids dangerous moves on the bar there. Savoring this warm(ish), sunny day!
Inspired This Week:
For School- Math Pickle (great math info!!)
For Creativity- Misty's Mornings
For Faith- Family At The Foot Of The Cross

(see- there were a few Christmas things left. ;))
Organizing:
More on the traditional school side of things, these boxes are our "turn-in" station. I am working having the boys write their name and date on each paper they complete and turning it in as soon as they are done. Ongoing projects can be slipped in front as shown.

Just for Fun:
Cousins visiting in the tree.

Love our whiteboard! It makes our days more productive and smoother! And your turn in boxes are like mine - only the kids just turn everything into one box. (They DEFINITELY don't have similar handwriting though. LOL) It's always helpful to be a little more organized!
ReplyDeleteAhh, it looks warm and sunny there! I'm looking at the window at droopy snow-covered evergreens and ice-coated deciduous trees with a GRAY sky. I'm ready for spring! LOL
Thank you for the link-back, Laurie:) That was so nice. Whew, glad to hear that I'm not the only one still putting away Christmas! Love those boys in the tree:-)
ReplyDeleteHot lava must be an universal game for this generation as it's popular in this neck of the woods as well!
