Weekly Review::The Accidental Spring Break
I am not sure how it happened, but it seems that we have been on break for the most part this week and last! :)
First, from last week- the best day ever (as previously posted).
Monday- A homeschool friend invited my boys to bring their baseball cards and baseball mitts over to do some trading and playing. The boys played and played and played. The mom of the family grilled cheeseburgers for about 15 hungry boys!
Tuesday- My big boy, Paul, turned 13! The morning was spent playing his new game, DOG*OPOLY, and then we were off for lunch and bowling with a few friends.

An afternoon with horses.
Tuesday- My big boy, Paul, turned 13! The morning was spent playing his new game, DOG*OPOLY, and then we were off for lunch and bowling with a few friends.
Wednesday- Swimming (just one more lesson after this). The boys are working on lifesaving techniques. Pretty fun stuff. Then, because I wasn't feeling well, we took the rest of the day off and watched Justin Morgan Had a Horse (rented from the library). If you are looking for a fun horse movie to watch, we give it a "two thumbs up".
Thursday- We did have co op, but the kids were having so much fun that I am not sure it counts as school.
While some of the children were in their Spanish class, others made some Easter/Spring crafts- I love Oriental Trading Company (their craft packs always come with enough for all at a good price).
In honor of the birthday boy, Julia (Paul's cousin) made these adorable and yummy cupcakes.
We ate lunch and then sang happy birthday.
And then did do a little bit of geography.
Drawing credit goes to Julia N., who is new member of our little co op.
We are working on a unit that follows the adventures of Minn of the Mississippi. I won't go in to details, but I have written a few posts on our own adventures with this program from Beautiful Feet Books.
Friday- Recovery day. Laundry has overrun the house and the bedrooms are a mess. We are going to get straightened up around here!!
Update on our Handsome Horses study-
We are on "Day 3" (we are completing what is consider one day in the study in one week). Anything new is an adjustment, but I feel like we are getting the hang of the Download N Go.
I printed a set of the worksheets that are a part of the study for each of my boys. Each boy has a clipboard with his pages for the "day". They can then take notes on these as we are learning. Except for the bible verse sheets, which I am considering their copywork, they can just jot down what is notable to them.
Each "day" has lapbook components to use with the study. I have printed a set of these for each boy as well. The boys complete the lapbook components as we go along, but will assemble the lapbook when the study is complete.
Just the bday boy having fun-

Lori, looks like you had a busy and wonderful week. Happy birthday to your TEENager! I can so relate to the recovery Friday. I am having one of those here as well. Funny how that laundry just doesn't seem to get done without us isn't it.
ReplyDeleteYou have fun "accidental" spring breaks!! Love the cupcakes your niece made. Great suggestions for the Download and Go. We have used the suggested books, but not much of the other material yet. Great idea to print them out for each boy. Happy Birthday to your son!
ReplyDeleteThanks for linking up again this week, have a great weekend!
Hi Lori! I made a note to myself to remember to schedule some time off after Easter for next year. We took a 1/2 day off on Monday and 1/2 day off on Tuesday.
ReplyDeleteThe Morgan Had A Horse I believe was seen in our house. And I believe the girls liked it. We've seen so many horse shows...I cannot keep track.
I signed Ester up for a one week horse camp for the summer. She is soooo excited. She's been begging to go since we moved to TX almost four years ago.
The drawing of the sea turtle is awesome!!!
Have a blessed Divine Mercy Sunday!
Looks like an awesome week--with quite a bit done considering it was a "spring break" The horse looks like lots of fun as well.
ReplyDeleteI love the turtles!!! I love turtles and that drawing is great!
ReplyDeleteSounds like your week was quite productive- learning takes place anywhere and at any time ;)
Hope you have a great weekend :)
Hurray for taking it easy now and then, and happy birthday to your son!
ReplyDeleteThat sounds like a great week! :)
ReplyDeleteMinn of the Mississippi is such a wonderful book, as are all the Holling Clancy Holling books. I'm so impressed by those turtle sketches. They are awesome! Glad to hear you had a great week.
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful school you have. I love your flexibility, too. I think the Minn notebook page is incredible!! I am learning so much by peeking in on your weeks.
