Week In Review and New Blog Look

Thanks to Lyn at My Heart's Desire Creations for the new blog look! When Lyn first sent me the sample header to help me out of my indecisiveness, my first thought was "but I blog about my boys".  A rose did not seem to fit. But then I thought this is my little space. While I love being a mom of  boys, I am also overrun by Hot Wheels, Legos, Bionicles, westerns, toads, snakes, tortoises, dogs, cap guns, .... A little piece of pretty on my blog actually feels nice. And simple. ;)

Along with a header and a button, Lyn has also helped clean up some other things for me. She has been so helpful and so reasonably priced, I highly recommend contacting her if you have been thinking you would like some help with your blog.

What's working for us this week:
Just the facts please! We have been working on being consistent with the three R's. When we are home, we hit the books daily. That phase sounds kind of harsh-  it is not too tough.  We are doing our daily warm up, playing math games, learning times tables (those that don't know them), completing Calculadder drills, finishing up book 1 of  Key to Fractions, stepping our way through All About Spelling, and working through English for the Thoughtful Child. I find as we consistently sit down each day that it is getting easier (and faster) for them.

What we enjoying:
Some nice weather! This week we have played basketball, built hot wheel race tracks on the back porch, played handball (baseball- no bat), introduced 4 square to a friend, and worked in the yard.

What we are learning about:
After a full weekend of field tripping (learning about the CA gold rush), academics were a bit sparse around here. As mentioned, our focus is the basics. We also worked on our Spanish and more dog studies. This time, due to Mark's interest, we learned about the Dogo Argentino. I am  not sure what his inspiration was, but it was enjoyed by all.

Out of the house:
We had a wonderful Monday morning up at the horse stables, and Friday we took a bird watching walk (future post) led by a local expert. Lots of fun!

My niece, Julia, was our most enthusiastic bird watcher.

Hangin' at the stable.
