Week In Review::October 24-28

I am all out of order on my blogging this week, but I am going to post a wrap-up anyway!

Monday-
Horse day. I find it exhausting even though all I do is watch. The good news- while each one of my boys was waiting his turn, he finished most of his Spanish class homework for the week. What a relief! This was followed by a run to the dr.- not for me, but for my dd who is a soon to be mamma again! Still waiting...

Tuesday-
School day. Sit down and work on the 3R's. We worked on some problems from Becoming a Problem Solving Genius- A Handbook of Math Strategies by Edward Zaccaro. I am not sure that I am going to purchase it, but I am happy to be able to borrow it from the library. It was a fun change up for math, and it really does introduce some great strategies for problem solving. Being the mathematical genius that I am not, I found this book very useful!

Wednesday-
The afternoon was spent with our homeschool group. Paul plays volleyball there and is over-the-moon excited that he got bumped up to varsity. What this means is more play time, and that is what he really hoped for. James participated in his homeschool PE program and had a great time playing with his friends. Mark stayed home sick- thank goodness dad was around. Poor baby has been fighting a yucky cold all week.

Thursday-
More school work. I guess I would call Tuesday/Thursday our "seat work" days. Although, I am trying to formulate a way to mix things up a bit.

Friday-
Spanish class and extended play time in honor of the fact that Halloween is on Monday (don't all classes need a class party?). The kids also enjoyed eating lunch and some yummy cupcakes together.

My happy thought-
You may not be able to tell, but under the playhouse is a sandbox and in it are some very big boys (my nephew, Mark, and James) playing together. I think they caught me taking a picture, but I did not want to get too close and ruin the moment. I know they're sandbox days are numbered, but every once in while they forget that and just have fun being kids.

Too good to not share:

Five Things Homeschooling Has Taught Me from Jen @ Forever, For Always, No Matter What writing over at The Homeschool Classroom. A must read!

While browsing over at Lynda's blog, My Heart's Desire, I stumbled upon this post from last year titled Is Your Homeschool Obese?. It really struck a cord with me as the weight loss program that I have been working at focuses largely on portion size and not overfilling our plate. The focus here is on our homeschool plate!

Really, read them! You'll be glad that you did. :)

  1. Thank you for featuring and linking to my post. I had read Jen's before, but it was a great reminder and some things need to be "consistently" brought back to us.

God bless, Laurie! Have a great weekend. =)

  2. The sandbox days picture is precious, Laurie. Made my heart skip a beat as a mother to a daughter who is slowly growing out of dolls :)

We will keep your daughter in our prayers!!

  4. Thanks for linking to my post :) Great article by Lynda, there is definitely some "dieting" that I need to do in that area! My big boys will sometimes hop in the sandbox, I know that won't last too much longer. Oh and I love the pumpkin craft. Happy Halloween!!
