Helpful Hint
The Helpful Hint by Many Little Blessings this week about seeking out homeschool support is right on. The encouragement I receive from my homeschooling friends has given me the fortitude to keep going.
When I started homeschooling, we had three little girls. Easy enough. Girls actually like school! (mostly;)) My vision was we'd do this for a few years (maybe to high school), I would finish my education (I was still taking college courses at the ripe old age of 28), and then I would join the "grown-up" world. Well, it did not exactly turn out that way. Here I am, almost 20 years later, still plugging along and trying do the best I can (and mostly loving it). Like the above "hint" from Many Little Blessings will tell you, support is integral. Just listening to another mom share her excitement about a breakthrough she has with one of her children or a fun unit study that they have done, is like soaking up that mom's energy. It renews my resolve to keep going and inspires me to attempt to do it well. But, I digress... :)
My actual hint is this-- just keep smiling. Sometimes disaster is erupting around me and I start feeding into it. Like throwing fuel on a fire. At the end of the day, everyone knows we had a "bad day". Heads are down and no one is excitedly sharing with dad what happened that day. But, if the same disaster is happening, and I keep my head up and smile (staying calm- a feat for me on my best day), the kids don't seem to really feel the full impact of what is happening. Dad comes home and, through my boys' eyes, the day does not look so bad. As a matter of fact, sometimes they make it sound downright adventurous. So,when all else fails smile (and say a quick prayer!). It may not be as bad as you think.

I love the pic =)
ReplyDeleteGreat advice! It can be a challenge to stay calm when chaos is all around and it seems that most of my days have some chaos!
