Wrapping Up The Week::Jan. 17-21

Around the House:
When a family member moves out of a house the size of ours, their space if filled as quickly as it is emptied. And there is a trickle down effect. Michelle, who just got married, moved her stuff out which means that Erin has moved her stuff in to her sister's place and my boys are moving their stuff in to Erin's place! Yikes! It has been a wild week. We are all enjoying the breathing room. There is lots of purging, cleaning, and fun being had by all. The biggest news is the boys can fit their Legos in their bedroom, and they are having a great time building things that don't have to be moved. I am loving not stepping on Lego pieces!

Outings:
My dear hubby agreed (I don't think he had any idea what he was saying yes to ;)) to take a group of children to visit the Elephant Seals this week. The blessings of having a 15 passenger van! We were able to transport 11 young people to Ano Nuevo Elephant Seal Reserve. These pictures to not begin to capture the awesomeness of these creatures. To be so close to the huge bulls (the one laying in the sand below was just feet away from us) and to hear the sounds they make- It is just breathtaking!

Our little group starts out (L). On the way back, chatting with our docent (R).

They look tiny from this vantage point (L), but they are not! This one on the right was a "loser" bull. He got beat out by the dominate male and has the bite mark on his back to prove it.
I was so proud of the kids that we brought- our docent was very complimentary and really took the extra time with them as they were so attentive and interested in all that was going on.

In the Reading Corner:
We are still working on Peter and the Starcatchers. I have also started a "what we reading" page for 2011 that includes some fun audios my boys have been listening to and what I am reading. And, as I have mentioned in my picture book challenge posts, I am working on reading more picture books! Our first read was "Stellaluna" and we will add to that tomorrow.

For School:
I am still in New Year's resolution mode (a few weeks behind!) and trying to revamp things around here a bit. I will try to do a post on that when we get it all sorted out. I think my theme for this semester is going to be consistency- My boys thrive on routine. They also learn and retain more when I don't try to do too much in any one sitting but do a reasonable amount of work every day.  I want to set my goals realistically enough that I can be consistent with our school day.

I have linked this post to Jen's blog at Forever, For Always, No Matter What. Stop by and read what others are up to and join in if you want!
