Stellaluna
I am not going to post a review for each book that we read- if I stick to the "Harvest" level of the challenge that would be 200 posts just on the picture books we read. I am going to attempt a weekly post after this. I was anxious to get started though. Stellaluna is our first official read for this challenge. My hubby purchased this book about 17 years ago to read to our now 24 year old daughter when she was 7 years old, and it has since been read numerous times to her 4 younger siblings as well. If the measure of a book's quality is its staying power, in our family at least, it has that!
Book review aside, joining this challenge made me do what I promised I would do- spend some time with James doing some 7yo stuff. He was having a hard time (on the verge of a meltdown) while playing with his big brothers today- I walked in the room and asked if he would like to read a book. He replied, "ya, sure" (instant mood change), and we had a wonderful time sitting on the couch together and reading- and then discussing what he knows about bats.

Without reading too deeply in to the story lines, this book is about being friends because of what you have in common and in spite of your differences. There is also a little to learn about birds and about bats. The back of the book includes some bat facts. Another great plus to this book, if you want to extend the story with some school activities there are plenty of online resources to had by typing "Stellaluna" in to your search bar.
You can read how other challenges for the month of January are going here at "There's a Book".

I meant to ask you how we were supposed to keep track of what we are reading, thanks for clarifying! We like this book too :)
ReplyDeleteStellaluna is a favorite of mine! Also, thanks for the link to the participation post for this challenge. I wasn't sure where to link my reviews either.
ReplyDeleteThis is a great idea!
ReplyDeleteI found your blog through the Picture Book Challenge. I love Stelluna! We have the audio book and really enjoy that too. Good Luck with your reading!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations Lori! You are the first winner from the Picture Book Challenge! Yay! :o) If you could email me your address I'll get your prize in the mail right away! (My email - the1stdaughter at gmail dot com)
ReplyDeleteFantastic review as well! I think it's perfect to do a weekly summary with mini-reviews. I post quite often so it's easier for me to get them all in, but that's all I usually blog about. So, I like the idea of a once-weekly review. Great! And congratulations again!
I, too, love Stellaluna, and it's far too long since I read it. Thanks for the little nudge!
ReplyDeleteAnd I also like the idea of doing a weekly sum-up of reading, because my writing blog was becoming a picturebook review blog! I'll stick to once a week from now on.
Have a great time reading! And congratulations on being the first prize winner!
